Laura M. Rizio, Esq. graduated from Penn State University and the Dickinson School of Law. She received her J.D. degree in 1968, and joined the Philadelphia District Attorney’s office under Senator Arlen Specter. A short time later she became a staff member of the American Law Institute’s Committee on Continuing Legal Education. She spent two years preparing and editing educational materials for practicing lawyers across the country. She then accepted a position as a litigator with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Ms. Rizio was entrusted with major cases, including a suit brought by the United States Government against Philip Morris for racial and sex discrimination in hiring and promotion policies. The suit was settled for the largest amount ever awarded in a class discrimination suit at that time. She is known for her sensitivity to client needs and her ability to communicate with clients, insurance adjusters and attorneys to bring about fair settlements in a reasonable time frame.

In 1978, Ms. Rizio and Mr. Hamilton founded the law firm which is today Rizio & Hamilton, P.C. Then, it was the first husband and wife law firm in the City of Philadelphia. Ms. Rizio is dedicated to the needs of her clients and views the injured client as an individual, a whole person with special and particular needs.

Ms. Rizio is a member of The Philadelphia Bar Association, The Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association and The Justinian Society. She is also listed in the Who’s Who of Professional Women of America.

James A. Hamilton III, Esq., graduated from Temple Law School in 1978. Mr. Hamilton is responsible for managing most of the firm's litigation, as well as trying the major jury trials, including medical malpractice, infant death, and catastrophic injury cases.

After practicing for several years, Mr. Hamilton was accepted into, and successfully completed, the intensive Litvin Advanced Trial Advocacy Program, which is sponsored by the Philadelphia Bar Association. This nationally known training course for experienced litigators later became the inspiration for Temple Law School’s Master’s in Advocacy degree.

Mr. Hamilton was formerly appointed Settlement Master by the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. This prestigious position was created to help clear the backlog of cases jamming the Philadelphia courts. Mr. Hamilton, and others like him, were instrumental in speeding up the civil justice system in Philadelphia so that it now ranks as one of the best systems in the country. He was subsequently appointed as Judge Pro Tempore in the Day Forward/Major Jury Program. He also served as a Federal Arbitrator for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Mr. Hamilton is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, The Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, The Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association, The Justinian Society, The Philadelphia Bar Association and the John Peter Zenger Law Society.

Michael P. Kane, Esq. graduated from Penn State University and then the Villanova University School of Law. He is licensed to practice law in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Prior to joining Rizio & Hamilton, Mr. Kane worked for a large Philadelphia law firm defending major corporations in Product Liability lawsuits.

While attending law school, Mike had the privilege of serving as an extern to The Honorable Theodore McKee, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He also served as a certified legal intern for Villanova's Farmworker Legal Aid Clinic. Mr. Kane's article, Strictly Speaking About Ephedra: A Baseball Tragedy Helping to Define the Dynamic Between Warning Defect and Design Defect, was published in the Villanova Sports & Entertainment Law Journal at 12 Vill. Sports & Ent. L.J. 97. Mr. Kane was also the President of Villanova Law School's Latin American Law Students Association and the Production Editor of the Villanova Sports & Entertainment Law Journal.

Mr. Kane is a member of the Hispanic Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He is also fluent in Spanish.
