6 Things to Do After an Auto Accident
As a team of top Philly accident lawyers serving several areas across New Jersey and Philadelphia, Rizio, Hamilton & Kane, P.C. represents drivers and individuals who have been involved in car or truck accidents.
We believe that people should be fully compensated for any injuries sustained as a result of an accident on our roads. We also think that people should be educated on the correct steps to take following an auto related accident. In fact, if you are not seriously injured, remain calm, and follow the steps below.
Ensure Passengers Are Safe
Check all passengers for injuries that may have been sustained during the accident, and notify law enforcement professionals (once they arrive) if anybody has been seriously injured.
Call the Police
Police must always be called to ensure that the accident is logged and that all parties are safe and accountable following an accident.
Clear the Road
Try and get all the vehicles involved out of the way as soon as possible and place them in a safe location. If it’s not possible to move the cars, try to make sure everyone in the accident is moved away from traffic. Don’t forget to put your hazard lights on so that passing cars can see that there is an ongoing situation.
Take Pictures of the Scene and Make Notes
As soon as you get the chance, take pictures of the scene, damage to all vehicles involved and also to take pictures of each person’s drivers license, registration and insurance information.
It is important to write down all that you can remember about the accident. This includes witnesses, the order in which events took place, statements made by the striking driver or passengers, and vehicle damage.
Call Your Insurance Company
Let YOUR insurance company know about the accident as quickly as possible. However, DO NOT speak to the other driver’s insurance company. Their insurance company is not your friend, and will not help you in any way. Also, make sure that you avoid signing any documents until you speak to a lawyer.
